14 physician CEOs to know in 2025

Here are 14 physicians who have been appointed to CEO roles since Jan. 1, 2025, as reported by Becker’s:

1. Michael Kupferman, MD, was named CEO of Hershey, Pa.-based Penn State Health, effective June 23. He will succeed Deborah Addo, who has served as interim CEO since last fall after Steve Massini retired Oct. 1 from the role. 

2. Mount Graham Regional Medical Center in Safford, Ariz., tapped Chief Medical Officer Bart Carter, MD, to serve as interim CEO and administrator in charge during the CEO’s extended absence.

3. Scott Robertson, MD, was appointed system senior vice president of the Physician Enterprise, California Region, for Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health and CEO of Dignity Health Medical Foundation.

4. Sandra Scott, MD, was appointed CEO of New York City-based One Brooklyn Health after serving in the role on an interim basis since January 2024.

5. University Hospital in Newark, N.J., selected New Jersey Department of Health Commissioner Kaitlan Baston, MD, as interim CEO, effective May 3.

6. Karen Pinsky, MD, was named permanent CEO of Penn Medicine’s Chester County Hospital in West Chester, Pa.

7. Thomas Klemond, MD, was appointed interim CEO of Minneapolis-based Hennepin Healthcare, effective April 11.

8. New York City-based NYU Langone Health selected Alec Kimmelman, MD, PhD, as the next CEO of NYU Langone Health and dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine, effective Sept. 1.

9. David Sinclair, MD, was appointed president and CEO of AdventHealth Daytona Beach (Fla.), effective March 10.

10. Glorimar Medina, MD, was named CEO of hospital campuses, overseeing Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital and Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, both in Houston.

11. Leanne Yanni, MD, was appointed president and CEO of Illinois physician enterprise for Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System.

12. Mike Richards, MD, was appointed CEO of Albuquerque, N.M.-based UNM Health System, Jan. 21. 

13. Aliya Jones, MD, who previously served as a deputy secretary in the state health department, became permanent CEO of Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center in Jessup, Md. 

14. Dipen Parekh, MD, was named CEO of the University of Miami Health System and executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Miami.
